Joining house to house

I used to joke (or half joke) that this was an injunction against apartment living but as I think about it I think it might apply more to multigenerational living arrangements, specifically when those are a matter of necessity, when the conjoined family living arrangements are necessary because at least one of the nuclear families involved is unable to choose a more nuclear arrangement thanks to not having any reasonable situations available to make living separately financially viable. That is an indication of a society that is failing its members.
