On Saturday night Isaac came in after 10 telling me he needed me to turn the WiFi on so he could “talk to some people.” When I didn’t turn it on based on that lack of information Isaac declared that I would find his body in the morning. Shortly after that he texted a complaint that Alyssa had given the knives away (he was unaware that I had been in control of the knives for a week). Little did he know that I had gone so far as to remove the knife lockbox from the kitchen after he got angry just in case he was aware that the lockbox was there (he wasn’t aware).
Apparently he also texted one of his therapists about wanting to harm himself and she called the police. They called Isaac but he soon hung up on them and they came to the house. After their arrival I discovered that Isaac had left the house and soon after that I discovered that he had removed the axe as well.
We found him sitting up in our tree after 15 or 20 minutes and eventually some firefighters talked him down. At that point they transported him to the hospital. He tried telling the social worker that he wanted to make a safety plan and go home but I said there was no reason to expect that he was safe less than 2 hours after getting to the hospital so he stayed there until he was accepted into Provo Canyon Mental Hospital around 4:30am on Sunday.
We failed to make contact with the psychiatrist who first interviewed him on Sunday but that afternoon he called and tested clothes and toiletries which we delivered. Today we finally talked to a psychiatrist at Provo Canyon who is quite concerned about Isaac. He told me that Isaac had already alienated and offended every adolescent resident at the facility within 24 hours. Frankly we have to wonder at this point if Isaac will even be able to come home or if he will need a longer managed care arrangement. Either way I just hope he gets the help and stability he needs to make some kind of life because he has long been on a dead end path which is a large part of why he’s willing to throw everything away at the slightest provocation.
