Seeing the hearts

I wondered why the Amalekites were so intent upon shedding blood. They fought the people of Ammon but found it unsatisfying then fought the neighbors and found it unsuccessful before returning to satiate themselves by killing those who would not defend themselves. (I would have found that humiliating.) The Lord told Ammon that Satan had a great hold on them. That explains their thirst for blood.

As I thought about it I realized that the people of skin probably felt very good about the arrangement of the neighbors because they could be protected without feeling like a burden on the neighbors because they were paying through their labor for the protection they received rather than simply being wards of neighbor charity. They had, after all, wanted to repay the neighbors for their past offenses.
