Clouds without water

The epistle of Jude is so applicable today. He compares those who “ran greedily after the error of Baalam for reward” to clouds without water. I read “running after the error of Baalam for reward” to mean things like buying into the popular philosophies of the day in order to be “on the right side of history.” But Jude had already described such men as “{speaking} evil of those things which they know not.” It reminds me of educated members of the church who buy into the popular modern ideology that promotes sexual deviance as normal and proper. These members have forgotten that there is a source of truth beyond the philosophies of men and have fallen for easy doctrine (demanding nothing from mankind).

Clouds without water have every indication of carrying needed relief but without the capacity to deliver on that promise. The description applies both to a carnal philosophy that sounds good to the natural ear while running counter to eternal truth (modern example: homosexuality is natural and comparable to eternal marriage) and to those people who present as being educated or enlightened but who can’t tell the difference between eternal truth and the philosophies of men.

I sorrow for those who, with all their learning, have come to doubt their faith rather than doubting the questions that have come to separate them from God.
