Punching the ocean

I have come to describe Enoch fighting against me as punching the ocean. No matter how much you punch the ocean it never changes the ocean. Not only that but all that punching doesn’t benefit you either I have decided, at least for now, that I’m going to pay as much attention to Enoch’s punching as the ocean would. I have my boundaries and won’t allow Enoch to steal the privileges I provide that aren’t free to everyone in the house and I won’t protect Enoch from the consequences of any of the choices he makes but unless he starts doing/doing things that present an actual danger to himself or others I’m not going to waste energy trying to get him to make better choices. Eventually he’ll run into an obstacle that he can’t pretend doesn’t count out else he’ll decide to shape up on his own. Either way, it isn’t my responsibility to make his choices for him.
