The prophecy regarding the duration of the tribulation where evil reigns throughout the earth before the second coming of Christ is very specific and based on three agreeing witnesses it is quite clear: 1260 days is exactly 42 months of each month is 30 days. 42 months of exactly 3½ years (“a time, times, and half a time”).
There will be a duration where the world is ruled (functionally whether or not it is acknowledged politically) by two rulers in succession with the second openly paying homage to the first. During that time the church will be functionally in exile from the world (the woman nourished in a hidden place in the wilderness) – probably because anyone not carrying the mark of the beast will be prevented from participating in commerce. This could very well be the fulfillment of the prophecy about the saints gathering to Missouri on foot. Perhaps that is when the New Jerusalem will be built as they are cut off functionally from the rest of the world.
