Bex and I went to see Wanka today, in advance of taking the whole family over Christmas break, and I really enjoyed it. Toward the end of the movie I realized that it was an example of how truly good entertainment follows a consistent pattern of lasting toward goodness. While dark topics can sometimes be explored (not the case in this one) uplifting entertainment, the kind that invites us to feel the Spirit, draws our thoughts toward goodness rather than simply indulging in things that are titillating, silly, edgy, or exciting. They don’t have to be overtly spiritual to be good either (this wasn’t), they just need to be virtuous, lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy.
