The bulk of witnesses

In a legal case there are star witnesses—those who provide the most compelling testimony—and then all the other witnesses who bear less spectacular testimonies but the consistency of their more pedestrian testimonies serve remove any argument that the testimony of the star witnesses is inconsistent with the broader context of surrounding facts or the overall character of a person or persons who are the subject of the trial.

With the coming fourth of the Book of Mormon the Three Witnesses are the star witnesses while the Eight Witnesses provide the supporting testimonies that confirm the fundamentals of the star testimonies without some of the specific details that, while spectacular, are not the primary point of the extraordinary testimonies.
