When Nephi was told to build a ship he asked where to go for ore in order to create tools. I’m not sure if he already knew what tools he might need but he knew he needed ore. What about me? Do I know what tools or resources I will need to build for the next phase of our family journey?
I begin my guesses based on the things I have felt inspired to work on over the last many months.
- A consistent habit of prayer
- Hobbies that sustain me emotionally
- A place of peace
- A place to escape
I suspect there will be at least 3 places which can each be classified as a place of peace, a place to escape, or both. One will be somewhere inside the house that I can have solitude without needing to worry about weather. One will be a place outside the house where I can have peace while enjoying nature – ideally a space where I can spend time with others without chaos. One will be a place away from the house where I, and probably the family as well, can retreat comfortably away from society from time to time.
Based on my prior work my place inside the house is the back portion of the master closet although long term I would like to have an office space where I can retreat. I have done some work and made some plans to make the east side yard my outside space. It still needs more work including enhanced privacy from the road, an electrical outlet, some basic shelter from sun or minor rain, and some landscaping to enhance the beauty and functionality of the space. As for a place of retreat, I have been looking in the area of Fairview, Sanpete County, as it is lightly populated and will be in the center of the path of totality for the eclipse on August 12, 2045 (which I am hoping to have as a major culminating family event — a target for our planning in the next 2 decades). I’m unsure whether that place of retreat needs to be land I purchase and improve enough that we can comfortably retreat there (a bathroom, a fire pit, and some standing supplies to make it easy to stay for a few days without significant advanced planning) or if it would be enough to get familiar with a good camping location that would be capable of accommodating the size that our family will be by the time if the eclipse (which is obviously unknown at this point).
