So far I have mostly been thinking about resources as tools but I realized that the ways we chose to structure and use our time are also told for building the kind of family we want for further progress on our journey. Dates with the kids and with Laura are tools I have already started to apply (for more than a year now) and we can also use and create traditions to help build and maintain the family culture we desire.
As I began thinking about those things I realized that smaller rituals and how we structure and schedule our time are also available tools to help us build the family in the same way that nails are as much tools as hammers are.
I am working on establishing consistent bedtime routines including family scripture study and prayer as a starting point for structure. It’s hard because the kids don’t believe there is value in those boundaries and Laura leaves enforcing any of that to me—if I don’t enforce it she’ll let the kids do whatever they want.
