Public vs private counsel

At the beginning it sounds like Lehi is speaking privately to Jacob but much of what he says seems unnecessary for this son who would be a prophet. Later Lehi indicates that he is speaking to all his sons but there is no indication of where he made a transition from private to public. Maybe he spoke directly to Jacob but in a group setting. In either case, this chapter contains one of the most concise recitations of the plan of salvation. In fact, the whole plan can be summed up with this:

But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall.
