Giving missionary assignments one time he saw 10 senior couples to assign when there were 300 requests for senior couples. Will Laura and I make and take opportunities to serve a mission together? There are significant questions to answer about how, when, or where to serve but not asking the question isn’t a path I’m interested in.
President Russell M. Nelson has encouraged couples to “get on their knees and ask Heavenly Father if the time is right for them to serve a mission.” Of all the qualifications, he said, “a desire to serve may be the most important.”
Right now the answer is obviously “no, this is not the time for us to serve,” but I want Laura and I to be looking forward to identify when and what kind of mission we can serve.
There are so many ways senior missionaries can do what no one else can. You are a remarkable force for good, seasoned in the Church, and poised to encourage and rescue God’s children.
This (whole talk) just speaks to me.
For some, and we hope thousands of you, full-time missionary service in another corner of the world will be just the right place. For others, serving a Church-service mission at home might be preferable. Because of health issues and other circumstances, there are those who are unable to serve. We understand those situations, and it would be my hope you might find ways to support those who are serving. Follow the prophet’s counsel and pray to know what the Lord would have you do.
