I recently discovered that Mickey has been keeping the window open at nights and the cats can get out without supervision—that’s almost certainly why George was outside when I woke up the other morning screen though ask the cats were inside when I went to bed the night before. I decided to look into getting a screen for that window and any others that are without screens. The quotes I was getting were hundreds of dollars for 3 screens but one of the guys that called to give me a quote suggested that I could do the work myself and explained how I could build the frames. I went to Ace Hardware and Lowe’s to price things out and I was able to get everything for $80. I then took the time to build my first screen and with the tips I got at Ace I was very happy with how it turned out.
I was surprised at how much of a sense of accomplishment I felt after putting the screen together and installing it in that window. I realized (again) that there is a significant emotional benefit to producing something tangible with your time and effort. I’m sure I will benefit from that with my work in the yard as well.
