I’m confident that Benjamin waited as he saw his people fallen to the ground in recognition of their need for Christ. In fact, I suspect that he had a similar reaction when the angel delivered the message to him. It’s not that he or they were wicked at the time—they had already gone to the effort to establish righteousness in the kingdom—but they were overwhelmed by a powerful spiritual reminder of the irreplaceable role of the Savior in their access to salvation. Having experienced the effect of the message the angel had first shared with him Benjamin showed time for the people to process and affirm their desire for the Atonement to have effect in their lives.
