Taking names

The principle of taking names and recording covenants seems to be natural among those who are following Christ. King Benjamin could have taken a sensus to record the people of his kingdom but that would have nothing to do with a sacred covenant. “If you live within our borders you are included in the sensus.” That’s very different than “while we are all together and have shared this experience and collectively declared our intent to serve God, come add your name individually to this record of those who have so sworn in order that those of us who have entered this covenant might support each other in this lofty and lifelong endeavor.”
