When Limhi recounted the suffering of his people it would be easy for them to be discouraged that they were in bondage and could make them feel that God had abandoned them. Even if they recognized that their bondage was earned they could have concluded that there was no path out of that bondage or into the favor of God. Limhi was declaring just the opposite, that good had made promises to support those who turned to Him and that His lack of support for them up to this point was consistent with His former promises and thus they should have every hope of receiving His favor again by turning to Him as evidence by the arrival of Ammon and his brethren.
