Finding a place of retreat

I got up early this morning to drive the van key down to Robby Layton in Ephraim so he would be able to get the van off the mountain once he has guys available.

Before I left I had a good prayer about establishing a place of retreat which I am calling our place of Mormon for now.

It was a 90 minute drive each away but gave me another chance to drive through Sanpete county (nearly from end to end) and look at new camping options. I found a town called Milburn that might provide a route up to the eastern mountains as well as a road on the other side of Highway 89 from the turnoff to Milburn that might lead up to the western hills.

After getting home I followed up on some of the places I had seen and upon further exploration in Google Maps I found some options west of Sanpete County such as the Nebo Loop. I also discovered a church camp called Old Pinery that looks really promising. I’m planning to make a reservation for one weekend this summer to go have a look at it. If we like it I’ll plan on reserving one or more nights early in August each year as early as we can at least until we find a better option. Personally if we like it it’s almost exactly on the centerline of the 2045 eclipse.

I made sure to talk to Laura about my desire to find/create a place of retreat for the family. I think she will be even more supportive of my efforts going forward.

A thought I had while Eli Clemens was talking (based on what he was saying): “We need to anchor church to the bedrock of Christ, anchor the temple to the bedrock of Christ, and anchor our home to the bedrock of Christ.”
