The doctrines which Nehor put forth walere on a shaky foundation from the start because they were based upon the existing belief system even as he was trying to refute the exercising belief system. It’s hard to say “what you have heard about the existence of God and the promise of a life after death are true but the people teaching you those things just made up all the rules that you supposedly need to follow.”
To make that kind of argument logically you would have to show evidence of the shared beliefs that was independent of the prior beliefs and also show how that evidence supported the new doctrines. Alternatively you could use the evidence accepted under the prior beliefs and show how the particular beliefs that you are refuting are unsupported by that evidence. Either of those routes is tricky.
Luckily for Nehor he was not really speaking to logic. His pitch was a direct appeal to any emotions of pride or complacency in his listeners.
