And they began to endeavor to establish Amlici to be a king over the people. Now this was alarming to the people of the church, and also to all those who had not been drawn away after the persuasions of Amlici.

The parallels between Trump/MAGA and Amlici are undeniable. The people of the church in Alma’s day recognized the danger and were among those alarmed at the efforts to make him a king but today I fear that not nearly enough members of the church are alarmed at the push to discredit any accountability for Trump and to establish him above the law. Not only are too few alarmed but too many in the church openly support his demagoguery.
This business with Amlici took place 5 years into the mission of the sons of Mosiah. It is most likely that the king of the Lamanites who fought with Alma was the father of Lamoni. It’s no wonder that he would be angry thereafter to find Lamoni defending a Nephite.
