In a preparation to hear the word

How could Alma tell that this new group was truly prepared to receive the word? Was it in their expressions as they looked at him? Was there a difference in their time as they asked him questions?

He already had a group listening but maybe they were only mildly curious rather than thirsting for answers. Maybe they asked questions just to see what he would say or because they were hoping to stump him.

It occurs to me today that planting the seed and tasting the fruit are two very different things. Before we plant the seed we are ignorant but just proving that the seed was good is not enough to nourish us.

The seed that Alma offered to these poor people who had been cast out of their synagogues was to try praying where they could with faith in the Son of God and see if they could worship despite having been rejected by others.
