This morning I talked with Savannah about her concerns with how Aaron is trying to beat his own burdens mainly in isolation. We talked and I arranged to go visit both of them in a couple of weeks. At the end of my work day Bill called to talk. That was good because I’ve had to drive that bus for the last several months to make sure that he had someone to regularly bounce his thoughts off of. It was a bit of a challenge when he started venting about Mom telling him several weeks ago that she wouldn’t fund some expensive activities for his kids because they didn’t need those activities. (I happen to know it’s also because she believes that Lisa’s “yes to everything for the kids” attitude is neither healthy nor sustainable for the family—and I agree with that assessment.)
I’m reminded of what I told Savannah: the impulse to carry or burdens alone is antithetical to the gospel of Jesus Christ which is promised in the idea that none of us ever need to be on our own because: 1) Christ is always willing to support us and 2) we have all covenanted to bear one another burdens so we are surrounded by people who have covenanted to help.
