I never connected before that Amalickiah rose to prominence among a group of neighbors who were directly rebelling against the teachings of Helaman. These weren’t just angry people, they were angry about the message of repentance. It’s no wonder that they were set on destroying the foundation of liberty (which politically in the modern United States is the Constitution).
Like Moroni did in response to Amalickiah, we need to plant the standard of liberty again throughout the land. I think the way to do that is for all political parties to make it a foundational pledge for anyone who would seek any office that they commit to a peaceful transition of power after any election and that they pledge that support of the Constitution supercedes support for any party or candidate.
