A meal and some perspective

“A good man learns from his mistakes. A great man learns from the mistakes of others” and I would add that a father hopes that others will learn from his mistakes.

The big thing for today was going to meet Savannah and Aaron for dinner. I’ve been planning this since Savannah talked to me about how to support Aaron as he was struggling with life a few weeks ago (looking for a new job, trying to figure out a major—normal stuff for their stage of life).

We had a very enjoyable time and since we were in Bountiful we went to our office conference room where we could talk without restaurant noises all around us. We talked politics, economics, culture, and I encouraged Aaron to find other men he could lean on for support. I also made sure to preface my advice with the assurance that my advice was not an indication that I thought he wasn’t doing a good job at life. I said he was going great and they were doing great and I just wanted to encourage him to learn some lessons that I didn’t learn until at least 10 years later in my life.
