When Christ tells people to do alms He clarifies that they should be done for the purpose of blessing others, not for the purpose of receiving recognition. When praying we should do so to align ourselves with God, not to demonstrate our piety. To the disciples He made clear that their calling meant they should not concern themselves with material wants.
Do what should I focus on? Clearly I should be attending to the natural needs of myself and my family. Beyond that I have covenanted to put all my capacity into effect in alignment with leading people toward righteousness. In other words I should employ my talents in any way that leads to greater peace, joy, righteousness, and opportunity for people to accept the plan of salvation for themselves.
