- Expanding appreciation of diverse perspectives
- This election season I have exposed myself to perspectives that I had been largely ignorant of before.
- Partly because they are more prominent.
- Partly because I have been actively seeking to understand them more.
- Minority men
- Primarily black men (because they’ve been speaking up more and because some of them have very prominent platforms) like Barack Obama, LeBron James, Steph Curry
- Women
- Kamala Harris (obviously)
- Oprah Winfrey
- Michelle Obama
- Politics Girl
- Taylor Swift
- One thing I have noticed is that these “not cisgender white male” groups have more empathy and appreciation for other underrepresented perspectives.
- Black men are more open to women’s perspectives than white men.
- Women are more open to minority perspectives.
- Blacks are more open to understanding LGBTQ perspectives.
- LGBTQ are more in tune with women and minority perspectives.
- Any and all of the above are more cognizant of the perspectives of religious minorities.
- White men are more susceptible to poisonous ideologies like white/Christian nationalism.
- I have come to appreciate that the things these various underrepresented classes focus on are generally beneficial to everyone—even the majority/traditionally empowered groups.
- “Liberty and justice for all” must prioritize the “all” component.
- We need to remove the barriers that divide us where possible.
- We need to eliminate (as much as possible) the roadblocks that hold any given group back from life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
