  • Expanding appreciation of diverse perspectives
    • This election season I have exposed myself to perspectives that I had been largely ignorant of before.
      • Partly because they are more prominent.
      • Partly because I have been actively seeking to understand them more.
    • Minority men
      • Primarily black men (because they’ve been speaking up more and because some of them have very prominent platforms) like Barack Obama, LeBron James, Steph Curry
    • Women
      • Kamala Harris (obviously)
      • Oprah Winfrey
      • Michelle Obama
      • Politics Girl
      • Taylor Swift
    • One thing I have noticed is that these “not cisgender white male” groups have more empathy and appreciation for other underrepresented perspectives.
      • Black men are more open to women’s perspectives than white men.
      • Women are more open to minority perspectives.
      • Blacks are more open to understanding LGBTQ perspectives.
      • LGBTQ are more in tune with women and minority perspectives.
      • Any and all of the above are more cognizant of the perspectives of religious minorities.
      • White men are more susceptible to poisonous ideologies like white/Christian nationalism.
    • I have come to appreciate that the things these various underrepresented classes focus on are generally beneficial to everyone—even the majority/traditionally empowered groups.
    • “Liberty and justice for all” must prioritize the “all” component.
      • We need to remove the barriers that divide us where possible.
      • We need to eliminate (as much as possible) the roadblocks that hold any given group back from life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
