What is the full picture?

Mormon records the deaths of nearly a quarter million of the Nephites and it must have taken place all at once. I wonder how many Lamanites were also killed there. It could theoretically have been a comparable number although I personally suspect that the battle was so uneven that the landlord suffered only a fraction of the number of casualties as the Nephites.

Regardless of the number, a quarter million or more corpses left to rot would result in an unbelievably large finding even today if we discovered it. I wonder what modern archeologists would make of it if they found this place. Of course, as far as we know they didn’t bother with any permanent structures as they prepared for this final battle so there would be nothing to initially attract the interest of archeologists. It would only become noteworthy after an unusually large concentration of bones had been discovered.
