Moroni is writing these words his father had taught decades after his father died—and Mormon has likely spoken them at least a decade before he died—and likely many years after Moroni himself had last had an opportunity to speak to any mortal about spiritual truths.
I imagine that Moroni thought often of these words in his many years of finishing this sacred record during lonely survival.
{It is} counted evil unto a man, if he shall pray and not with real intent of heart; yea, and it profiteth him nothing.
Moroni 7:9
