I wonder if it was frustrating for Ether to see so much about a future that not even a remnant of his people would experience. On the other hand, maybe it was comforting to know that God had such wonderful things in store in contrast to what Ether was witnessing each day.
It is ready to think about the people being organized into to warring factions but it is probably not instructive to recognize that while they eventually resolved into two warring factions they first brook down into “every man with his band fighting for that which he desired.” I actually think we are much closer to that than we might want to admit.
