I wonder what Ether did for the 4 years while the two armies were gathering. In some ways those might have been the most peaceful years of his life.
Can imagine that during these years of gathering the two armies were anything but gentle in recruiting—both armies probably killed anyone they concluded was not persuadable to join their side. The question in my mind is at what point they stopped being any better than animals. They might have retained some shred of humanity into that first day of battle but certainly the was no humanity left by the end of the third day of that battle. There was one final glimmer of humanity in the moment that the last few men of Coriantumr tried to flee for their lives before the men of Shiz chased them again. If there has been any humanity left in them even says before that they would have dispersed to live out their gutted lives apart in a land that was cast enough that they had no need to cross paths with their enemies.
