It struck me in the temple this morning that “it is not good for man to be alone” isn’t exclusively about the value of marriage—that men need women to help balance them and provide an alternate viewpoint. I believe it also applies to the fact that humans are social beings by nature—we are to be in the world but not of the world and the work of salvation is not a solitary undertaking. Healthy people require some degree of interaction with and support from other people although the style and degree of interaction and support needed can vary widely between individuals.
Notes from adult session of stake conference
Becky Roundy—Quoting Elder Holland: “God expects you … to shape the future.”
Ben Dalton—Sometimes the people you love the most will challenge you the most.
Matthew Brady—How to enhance the joy of your Sunday worship (oh good, this is one I’ve wanted to learn more about).
Sometimes we become spiritually numb when we are hurting. (physically, emotionally, or spiritually)
Coming to church even when it’s hard is important because even just exposure to light can help create a glimmer of light.
Nancy Duncan—President Benson said there is a difference between a convert who has a testimony of Christ through the Book of Mormon and one who does not.
Kevin R. Duncan—Two volcanos in Guatemala: Água looks exactly like a prototypical volcano but it’s totally dormant; Fuego looks like any old hill but it has eruptions at least every couple of months.
There is a difference between being a witness and being converted.
Witnessing is knowing and saying, conversion comes from doing.
Testimony is coming to know but conversion is the result of that knowledge changing who we are, how we act, and what we want.
“What more can I learn? What more can I do? What more can I become?”
