Interesting thoughts over the last couple of days

I didn’t write in my journal last night but it was an interesting day. I talked to set an alarm for the temple on Friday night and then I got a lot of good sleep. I woke up at 6:17 (37 minutes after my alarm would have been set) after 7½ hours of solid sleep. Thankfully I had scheduled initiatory rather than an endowment so I didn’t feel like I’d missed my window of opportunity. I got there a few minutes late but still got to do a regular session and I got home early enough to clear the snow off the van before Mickey left for work.

In the afternoon Laura and I went to our first show at The Ruth (the new theater in Pleasant Grove where the Orem Hale Center Theater has moved) and we saw Ragtime. I had never seen the show before and I absolutely loved it. I call it 20th century Dickens—it’s all social commentary for the early 20th century. I’m not certain how much of it is strictly historical but a good bit if it was.

As for today, at the end of Elder’s Quorum Brother Brown asked if I would teach the next Elders Quorum lesson. I’m excited to prepare for that discussion of Elder Stevenson’s talk Days Never to be Forgotten

Notes

Matt Dollar: Target fixation—where you look is where you go. Sometimes we overthink it but if we maintain our focus we will naturally make adjustments to arrive at our target. (These aren’t quotes.)

Repentance is the process of making adjustments that will bring us to Christ.

Thoughts during EQ discussion on covenants: Hesed is a special love God has for those who make and keep covenants with him. He loves all his children perfectly but those who make and keep covenants with Him are aligned with Him or resonate in harmony with His purposes so they have a special synergy, not that He loves them more but that there is more power in their relationship because of that alignment or synergy.

“God is in relentless pursuit of you.”
