The power of a physical body

If the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil.

2 Nephi 9:8

This suggests that without a physical body our spirits could not permanently withstand the influence of the adversary. Eventually they would succumb after mortality (without a body) no matter how much they grew during mortality. This is consistent with the idea—which I believe Joseph Smith once voiced—that all beings with a body have power over all beings without a body.

We shall have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt, and our uncleanness, and our nakedness; and the righteous shall have a perfect knowledge of their enjoyment, and their righteousness.

2 Nephi 9:14

It is interesting how, through this phrasing, Jacob is including himself among those who are not righteous. That is his humility and probably making himself approachable for any who think of themselves as not righteous.

O the wisdom of God, his mercy and grace!
O how great the goodness of our God
O how great the plan of our God!
O the greatness and the justice of our God!
O the greatness of the mercy of our God
O how great the holiness of our God!

2 Nephi 9:8,10,13,17,19,20

Great things from/in God for Jacob: wisdom, mercy, grace, goodness, plan, justice, mercy (again), holiness.
