I, the Lord, am not pleased with those among you who have sought after signs and wonders for faith, and not for the good of men unto my glory.
Doctrine & Coverage 63:12
When we seek signs and wonders it should be seeking them for the benefit of men and for the glory of the Lord.
Verily I say unto you, … he that looketh on a woman to lust after her, or if any shall commit adultery in their hearts, they shall not have the Spirit, but shall deny the faith and shall fear.
Doctrine & Coverage 63:16
“They shall not have the spirit but shall deny the faith.” That tracks with the number of times I have seen people who leave the church claiming that they just don’t believe “and no, it’s not because I’ve done anything wrong” only to have it revealed later that they were into pornography (which they will defend as being harmless) or being unfaithful in their marriages.
I, the Lord, am angry with the wicked; I am holding my Spirit from the inhabitants of the earth.
Doctrine & Coverage 63:32
I wonder if the Lord is again holding His Spirit from the inhabitants of the earth (because they have collectively rejected it—that is the only reason he ever does).
Many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.
Doctrine & Coverage 63:62
Using the name of the Lord in vain, “having not authority” is not a reference to those without authority who are honest in heart and truly seeking to promote Christ but are “out over their skis.” It is a reference to those who invoke the name of the Lord to imply authority where they have none and to manipulate those who wish to follow the Lord.
