Sons of perdition

I have always expected that there are very few sons of perdition throughout history—for example, as terrible as Hitler was it seems unlikely that he had sufficient knowledge of God to become a son of perdition. That being said, I had the feeling while reading today that while the number will still be a small fraction of humanity I would be surprised at how many became sons of perdition.
