Reviewing between now and my targets.

  • This is the week of our trip.
    • I’m asking for smoke-free air during camp
    • I’m asking for Aaron’s grandma to hang on through the weekend if, against all expectations, she is appointed to die at this time.
    • I need to test making cobbler on the camp chef tonight.
  • This is year 1 with 20 years to go until my target eclipse.
    • I really want us to get a good pattern started before we encounter any headwinds.
    • I think I should have an alternate site arranged for the eclipse more than a year in advance just in case our traditional location (presumably Old Pinery) gets booked for that weekend before we get our chance to reserve it.
  • I am wondering how to parent 4 younger teenagers who are already convinced that they don’t need any parenting.
    • I don’t know how much or how quickly we will be able to change our family culture once Mickey and Alex move out.
    • The younger kids have already deliberately (and in some cases very firmly) rejected any religious foundation.
    • I am firmly in favor of agency but I am not at all comfortable with the things they do and say—I feel like a foreigner in my own household.
    • I feel powerless to provide a rudder when Laura has no hand on the tiller.

Action Items

  1. Buy a 10-gallon metal trash can at Lowe’s or Home Depot and use it as a heat enclosure for the dutch oven to cook cobbler on top of the camp chef tonight.
