A lively member

And again, I say unto you my servant Frederick G. Williams, you shall be a lively member in this order; and inasmuch as you are faithful in keeping all former commandments you shall be blessed forever.

Doctrine & Coverage 92:2

There is more to be learned here than I had initially expected. The command for Frederick G. Williams to “be a lively member in this order” should remind each of us when we receive a calling to not be timid or hesitant to participate even when surrounded by others with more experience in the role. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be humble and teachable, just that we should act with confidence as a demonstration of faith in the Lord who has called us.
