But behold, verily I say unto you, that there are many who have been ordained among you, whom I have called but few of them are chosen. They who are not chosen have sinned a very grievous sin, in that they are walking in darkness at noon-day.
Doctrine & Covenants 95:5-6
Walking in darkness at noon-day is, in this case, having been ordained and then living as if that ordination was meaningless and had no effect in guiding their priorities. They had been ordained to the priesthood but were living their lives the same as before their ordination with no care beyond the temporal cares that dominated their lives prior to their ordination. (I’m reading things in here based on those I know today who are doing the same thing.)
If you keep not my commandments, the love of the Father shall not continue with you, therefore you shall walk in darkness.
Doctrine & Covenants 95:12
Walking in darkness at noon day is also allowing contention to drive away the love of the Father from our hearts.
