Why did Coriantumr allow Ether to be free after his fathers, the rightful heirs to the throne, had been in captivity for more than two generations? It would be assumed that Ether would seek to overthrow Coriantumr or at the very last that Coriantumr world would fear that Ether would do so. My feeling is that Coriantumr must have had some assurance that Ether had no interest in the throne.
Was Coriantumr an example of a priesthood man? I don’t think he was but as a man living in a society that was completely wicked he was just righteous enough that he allowed Ether to go free, that he was given an opportunity to repent and retain his kingdom and that when things got really bad he actually offered to relinquish the throne in the (vain) hope of preventing the destruction of his people. Coriantumr is, I think, an example of an honorable man of the world living in a completely corrupt society. In another age he might have been a very decent man.
