Hyrum Smith

Unlike any of the three witnesses, Hyrum never faltered in his faithfulness to the restored church. His is the remarkably rare example of unwavering devotion. He is often overlooked because while he held significant positions (patriarch of the church, counselor in the presidency, one of the eight witnesses) he never did any dissenting and he died with Joseph so that he never lived when Joseph wasn’t the center of attention. Unlike so many, Hyrum never lost sight of what the work was all about and who Joseph was. Perhaps because he had watched Joseph grow up he was never put off by any weaknesses that were apparent in his brother. I’m confident that naysayers would argue that Hyrum was the perfect example of a blind follower but I think he saw very clearly and knew what was real so that he could discard what was superficial.
