An intelligent child

For some reason I’ve never considered before that Ammoron noticed Mormon for his intelligence as a child. As a ten year old he was considered somewhat learned among the people. That intelligence was why Ammoron picked him and also why the Nephites picked him to lead at such a young age.

Of course in a very wicked society intelligence and learning often fall by the wayside in favor of cleverness and resourcefulness. Had Mormon been born in a period not completely dominated by war he might very well have been a scholar and not a warrior.

When Mormon or Moroni talk about what it takes to stop the work of miracles they know what they are talking about because they saw it happen among their people.
