The example that Jesus gives of how the Pharisees allow the traditions of their father’s to take precedence over the laws of God. It is important for us to recognize how subtly such traditions can grow so that they gain their staying power before we might recognize how they contradict an eternal law or principle. We need to be ever ready to distinguish between radiation and law and always willing to prune traditions when they conflict with actual law.
The account in Mark where Jesus first declines to help the Greek woman makes more sense as He explicitly says that His first priority is to feed the children. The wording in this version seems much less insulting. This account also suggests that His initial response was a trial of her faith.
