Based on the descriptions of the people gather to travel to the temple and pitching their tents according to their multi-generational family units, coming to hear the king speak was a family affair. It reminds me that families tended to live in close proximity to each other and they rarely had cause to travel and establish themselves apart from their parents and kin in an agrarian society. It was a very different society from the one we live in.
