Zeniff was able to see after years of living near the Lamanites how he had been naive to accept the promises of Laman and how the deck had been stacked against them living peaceably near the Lamanites. It’s a wonder that he didn’t conclude that the best course of action would be to gather their belongings and abandon the land of Nephi.
