When Amalickiah fled from the armies flocking to the standard of liberty Moroni knew that it was a strategic retreat to regroup rather than an escape which marked there end of his ambitions. Moroni didn’t wait for Amalickiah to sit up the Lamanites before he took action to try preventing that eventuality.
