Ammoron address quickly to return to the land of Nephi, inform the queen, take the kingship, gather an army, and attack on the western front before Moroni could learn of events and take his army to assist Teancum. Perhaps it was only a day or two ride (when not fighting your way through) from Bountiful to Nephi.
