After then end of the war with Amalikiah and Ammoron, in less time than it took to win that war the Nephites lost three chief judges (natural death, murder, and casualty of war) as well as losing and regaining their capital city. It’s hard to believe that the Lamanites recovered from the war so fast as to be able to launch another invasion that soon.
