Fractured society

If our government was destroyed I think our sickest would fracture like the Nephite society did but I wonder upon what lines it would organize. I suspect that religion would be one way that groups would form. Some groups would form around geography. Few would form around family because few families are large enough anymore to be sustainable as an independent group. Utah would be less changed then many other states because unlike other states there is a majority religion that doesn’t tend toward internal fracturing. Things here would change but not so drastically as other states.
