Tonight Savannah asked if we could talk in my cave. I interrupted the math that Alyssa and I were working on to hear what she had to say (expecting it to take 5 minutes). After a couple of false starts while trying to steel her nerves she told me first that one of her good friends had tried to kill himself the night before and that he had reached out to her by text beforehand. Her response was correct but unaware. She learned what had happened when she was called out by a school counselor who was trying to piece things together.
Secondly she told me that she had decided that she wants to get her patriarchal blessing. I think I started thinking of that for her a year ago. We’ve talked about it a couple of times but not in the last few months. I’m excited to see her growing up but also wary of her having to deal with some very serious things like the attempted suicide of her friend.
