The first day that Jesus came probably lasted a couple of hours. People can only take in so much at one time, plus they needed time to spread the word and allow others to begin gathering for the second visit.
The second visit taught much about prayer. The people prayed to Jesus (because He was present) and He prayed to the Father for them. More generally we pay to the Father in the name of Jesus and He must stamp His approval and play advocate on those things which are prayed righteously. The people were given what to pray while they brought their desire to the process and though they prayed for an extended period, they did not multiply many words. Their prayers must have consisted to a significant degree of listening and learning rather than speaking.
