Alma 1:32
Those who concerned themselves primarily with amassing wealth spent money on fine apparel and indulged in idolatries and idleness and envying and strife. In their search for wealth they settled for an appearance of wealth which robbed them of any chance to be really wealthy or very happy. For all their persecuting, robbing, theiving and lying the law was pit in force insofar as possible. Because a righteous law was enforced those who were prone to wickedness were afraid to commit any wickedness that might be seen and known. Because of that fear peace was maintained among the people of Nephi for three or four years.
